Mr. Vane is the first truly new windvane self steering system to come on the market in 25 years. What's the point in this age of electronics?

Mr. Vane is the result of a search for self steering on a small boat. When Sven Heesterman wanted to fit his Waarschip 725 with a windvane self steering system he soon found out that no system was available that could be combined with his centrally mounted outboard engine. After 4 years of development a system was steering his boat that was too good to keep to himself.

To make sure that this system was usable by smaller boats a few things had to be concidered:

Weight, mounting options and price.
 

On a small boat, extra weight on the transom affects the boats behaviour in waves. Mr. Vane is by far the lightest system ever!

Smaller boats have smaller transoms, often fitted with outboard engines and transom hung rudders. Mr. Vane has an optional mounting kit that will suit almost any transom and is the ONLY system that can be combined with centrally mounted outboards*

Mister Vee is the only brand offering this option. A USD windvane offers the best steering on off wind courses. For extra adaptability to conditions the vane axis can be adjusted from 20-45 degrees.

Removable pendulum rudder
The pendulum rudder is connected with a mechanisme that doubles as an overload protection and can also be removed in mere seconds without tools.

Due to the smaller and often more cluttered transoms, an effort was made to develop a highly flexible mounting system. This mounting system offers more mounting options than any other competing system, including combinations with outboard engines!

What about this USD windvane?

The USD windvane, tilted

On down wind courses with little heel a normal vane has maximum steering ability which is mostly not necessary and can easily cause oversteering. USD windvanes are better suitable for down wind courses: they prevent oversteering.
This discovery was made a couple of years ago by Dutch wind vane steering expert Jan Alkema who published his findings in sailing magazines and on the internet.
